Deadlines
The transition periods are running out.
Since 1 January 2025 every German company must be able to receive and process e-invoices. Staggered transition periods apply to issuing them.
-
since 01/01/2025
Receiving is mandatory
Every domestic company must be able to accept B2B e-invoices. The recipient no longer has to agree to it.
-
until 31/12/2026
Transition period for issuing
Paper and PDF invoices are still allowed in B2B for now — but only if the recipient agrees.
-
from 01/01/2027
Mandatory above €800,000
Companies with more than €800,000 in prior-year revenue must issue their B2B invoices as e-invoices.
-
from 01/01/2028
Mandatory for everyone
All domestic B2B transactions must be issued as a structured e-invoice. No exceptions.
Services
Six ways I make your invoicing process compliant
From a single template to a full ERP integration. Tell me where you stand today and I will build only what is actually missing.
Have e-invoicing software built
Custom software that creates, validates, sends and receives e-invoices — as a standalone application or a module inside your system.
- Create and validate
- Send and receive
- Fits your system
Convert invoices into e-invoices
Existing PDF, paper or legacy invoices become valid XRechnung or ZUGFeRD files — including a validation report.
- PDF becomes hybrid
- Legacy becomes standard
- Traceable
Build converter software
Your own converter in-house: you define the source format, I build the pipeline with mapping, validation and error handling.
- Mapping on your terms
- Batch or API
- Errors in plain language
Generate e-invoices in your ERP
Your ERP cannot do e-invoicing yet? I add the capability — as an extension, an interface or a layer in between.
- Your system stays
- Automatic in the workflow
- Status back in the ERP
GoBD-compliant archiving
Audit-proof storage of your invoices: immutable, complete, machine-readable and traceable across the entire retention period.
- Immutable
- Findable
- Documented
Create e-invoices from Excel and Word
Your existing Word or Excel invoice template additionally produces a valid e-invoice — same layout, same workflow, one click.
- Your layout stays
- One click is enough
- Validated before sending
- receiving is already mandatory
- 2025 receiving is already mandatory
- until you get a reply
- 24 h until you get a reply
- audit-proof retention
- 10 years audit-proof retention

Formats
Which format you actually need
Not every company needs all of them. The right choice depends on who you invoice and whether a human still has to read the document.
| Format | Use case | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| XRechnung 3.0 | Public sector clients, federal and state level | Pure XML, a CIUS of EN 16931 |
| ZUGFeRD 2.3 / Factur-X | B2B, when the invoice must stay readable | PDF/A-3 with embedded XML |
| Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 | Sending across the international Peppol network | Access through an Access Point |
| UBL 2.1 and UN/CEFACT CII | The two syntaxes behind the standard | The basis of XRechnung and ZUGFeRD |
| EDIFACT and IDoc | Existing EDI links in enterprise setups | Mapping onto EN 16931 is possible |
FAQ
What clients want to know up front
Do I have to replace my invoicing software?
In most cases, no. I extend what you already have — as a module, an interface or a small service next to it. Replacing the whole system is the most expensive option and rarely the necessary one.
Is a PDF invoice by email still enough?
Since 1 January 2025 a plain PDF no longer counts as an e-invoice. In B2B it is still permitted during the transition period until the end of 2026 if the recipient agrees. After that, no longer.
What is the difference between XRechnung and ZUGFeRD?
XRechnung is pure XML and the standard for public sector clients. ZUGFeRD is a PDF with embedded XML: humans see the familiar invoice, machines read the structured data. Both satisfy EN 16931.
How long does a project take?
Converting existing invoices is often in production within one to two weeks. An ERP integration with sending, receiving and archiving usually takes four to eight weeks.
Is the archiving really GoBD-compliant?
I implement the technical requirements: immutability, complete audit logging, completeness and machine readability, including procedural documentation. The tax assessment of your individual case remains with your tax advisor.
What does it cost?
After the intro call you receive a quote with a fixed scope. Converters and template extensions are usually offered at a fixed price, larger integrations are billed by effort.
